Grandma Yogini is a fun, energetic children's book by Raven Howell! It is colorfully illustrated by Alexander Santos! It is a book that focuses on the topic of fitness and family, particularly highlighting our elders and grandparents. Sometimes, we forget how wonderful, fabulous, incredible, and capable our grandparents can be. We often erroneously label the elderly as being less capable, diminished (in cognitive capacity), and expired--past their prime. But age is just a number. The elderly constantly wow and amaze us with their wisdom, passion, capabilities, and zest for life! This book serves as a celebration of grandparents everywhere! Grandma Yogini follows two children—presumably a brother and sister—as they anxiously and excitedly anticipate a visit from their grandma. They wonder what kind of grandmother she is and what kind of activities she will do with them. Will she read to them in Spanish like Juan's grandma does? Will she bake cookies with them like Anthony's grandma does? Will she draw and paint pictures like Li's grandma does? Well, it turns out that their grandma is a Yogini—a yoga practitioner! She guides the children through a series of fun and healthful yoga positions including the butterfly, the eagle, the perch, the cat, the snake, and even the kangaroo! Grandma Yogini also engages in different physical/sporting activities with the kids including chase and soccer! And she does extraordinarily well, demonstrating strength, agility, mobility, and flexibility! She even drives a motorbike! Grandma Yogini is SO COOL! While it highlights grandparents, as mentioned before, it also emphasizes the importance of physical activity and exercise for healthy growth and aging. Parents can use this as an opportunity to point out how Grandma Yogini's exercise and yoga practice make her so strong, agile, and physically capable. This book could also be a good way to introduce young children to the wonders and benefits of yoga. It's fun! This book is projected to be published in Fall 2025!
