Outstanding Creator Award for
“Funny & Bizarre Moment(s)”
Winners:
* In “Heroin to Hero” by Paul Boggie, the narrator is visiting a foreign country and thinks he has learned a special greeting which is actually a derogatory phrase. He goes around telling this phrase to random people without knowing what it means.
* The constant snark and sarcasm along with the hilarious footnotes in “Bacon Grief” by Joel Shoemaker, probably the funniest book overall this season
Honorable Mentions:
* Ashley Greathouse's dedication/copyright page in “The Schatten”
* The phrase “...garlands of enchanted sausages” from “Passamaquoddy Legends” by Michael Cook
* Gerard being obsessed with his beloved donkey and Touren acting like an old grump in “Torn Asunder” by David V. Mammina
* The outback humor found in the art in “Barbies 4 Blokes” by Julianne McLean and Mark Lynch
* The constant, seemingly unending space sex and Kairn's lack of a refractory period in “Kairn” by Fionne Foxxe Farraday
* The overuse of onomatopoeia and characters talking, thinking, and acting like they're 12-years-old (ex. “no take-backs”) in “The Devil Pulls the Strings” by JW Zarek.
* Gilraen getting angry and annoyed with people in “Gilraen and the Guilds” by Dr. Joanne Reid
* Peter needing to pee for about 1/10th of “Longsword: Edward and the Assassin” by Dimitar Gyopsaliev
* Chucklegorgon's snails and snail racing in "The Sun and the Starlings" by Barbara Hills
* Around 30-40% of the novels this season contained the same phrase: “smiling like a Cheshire cat.” Is your book one of them?
* The use of commas and hyphens in “From Dusk to Dawn” by Henry Krauss
* Sheila and Reggie trying to be sneaky but tripping and causing an entire shelf of cereal to fall over in “I Saw What I Saw” by Tony Garritano.
* Tanto talking about his Bushido philosophy out of the blue and trying to apply it literally anytime anything happens, even when none of the other characters care or know what he's talking about. Also, the multiple sub-plots in “You Will Know Vengeance” by WA Pepper.
* The phrase “it's not so silly” in “Above Us” by Angela Riedesel
* “Meanwhile, at the other end of town, absolutely nothing interesting happened to Officer Nella Dormanni” and other updates about the ineffectual Officer Nella Dormanni in “A Bad Place to Be a Hero” by Jerry F. Westinger.
* Probably no one but the authors actually know what those huge slabs of formulas and numbers mean in “Real-Time Earthquake Tracking and Localisation” by George R. Daglish and Iurii Sizov
* The lack of weight classes that leads to Sis Jones fighting guys who outweigh her by 50-100+ pounds in “Surviving the Second Tier” by MK Lever. In real life, this could have deadly consequences due to greater speed, size, muscle mass, and force production by larger individuals with higher levels of testosterone.
* Trying to figure out if Queen Vernita is actually a queen or just named “Queen” like Queen Latifa. And if she is a queen, we're trying to figure out how she has so much free time to live and wander through random places for months, probably at the expense of her tax-paying subjects. (Referring to “Queen Vernita Visits the Land of Little Rain” by Dr. Dawn Menge and Kent Duryee)
* In “Flying Penguin” by Asoka Jinadasa and Felicio Ferraz, a series of motivational, inspirational, and instructional quotes by famous people are presented. Randomly sandwiched between all of them is: “I became vegan because I saw what really goes on in slaughterhouses and dairy farms” - Ellen DeGeneres. We then get a quote from Elton John about how great music is.

* Trying to figure out if Queen Vernita is actually a queen or just named “Queen” like Queen Latifa. And if she is a queen, we're trying to figure out how she has so much free time to live and wander through random places for months, probably at the expense of her tax-paying subjects.
